DENNIS FOLEY<\/strong> is a Gai-mariagal man, a Traditional Custodian and Teacher.<\/p>\n Dennis teaches the stories of his Grandmother country, Gai-mariagal Country: Matriarchal country which today is known as the Northern Sydney region of Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n As men and women, we share this Country, we live on this landscape. Our collective wellbeing relies upon our collective strength, resilience and respect; as men and women, supporting and empowering each other.<\/p>\n We pay our respects to Dennis, and his incredible knowledge and generosity of teaching Stories of his Grandmother, matriarchal stories, story of Gai-maragal.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n KUNMANARA RANDALL\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0(c.1934 \u2013 13 May 2015) was an Elder, author, singer and community leader. He was a member of the Stolen Generations and was known by the honorific name, “Tjilpi”, a word meaning old man. He lived in Mutitjulu, the community at Uluru in the Northern Territory of Australia.<\/p>\n In 2006, he co-produced and narrated the documentary, Kanyini<\/strong> with Melanie Hogan. The film told the story of Tjilpi\u2019s life and explored the Kanyini principles, traditional teachings and knowledge of the Anangu people.<\/p>\n Kanyini<\/strong>\u00a0means “to have” and it’s about the connectedness\u00a0through caring and the responsibilities that underpin Anangu people\u2019s way of life.<\/p>\n Kanyini<\/strong>\u00a0connection us to the tjukurrpa, the creation time or \u201cthe Dreaming\u201d.\u00a0 It connects us as human spiritual beings to Ngura (place, land), walytja (kinship) and kurunpa (spirit or soul).<\/p>\n Kanyini<\/strong> is about caring, nurturing and practicing responsibility for all things.<\/p>\n Ninti Kanyini Tjungu<\/strong> means “knowledge to have together” and this is the next chapter in the teachings which will be carried forward by Tjipli’s daughter Dorethea Randall<\/strong> and Barbara Tjikatu OA<\/strong>. \u00a0It was both Tjikatu and Tjilpi, who are the lineage\/knowledge holders, who brought Kanyini<\/strong> to international prominence.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Elders DENNIS FOLEY is a Gai-mariagal man, a Traditional Custodian and Teacher.
